Junior Firefighter Program

The Amador Fire Protection District offers a Junior Firefighter Program, designed for local youth residing within the district that are between the ages of 14 and 18 interested in exploring a future in the fire service. This program provides a unique opportunity for youth to participate in hands-on fire department training and community service activities and events while working alongside firefighters.

Program Goals: The Junior Firefighter Program focuses on preparing members with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for a successful future in the fire service or other related fields. 

Trainings are led by Amador Fire personnel, ensuring that each participant receives credible, high-quality, training that is instructed by experienced fire service professionals. Training exercises are designed to prepare them for the challenges of firefighting and emergency medical situations and events.

 

Community Involvement: In addition to firefighting and emergency medical training, Junior Firefighters actively engage in various community service events, including:

  • Fire Safety Education: Assisting with fire safety programs, including smoke detector installations and fire prevention awareness.
  • Public Events: Participating in local events and activities that promote community engagement and safety.
  • Volunteer Support: Assisting professional firefighters during public events, such as fire drills, the county fair, and emergency preparedness exercises.

Eligibility and Requirements: To participate in the Junior Firefighter Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Between 14 and 18 years old
  • Academic Standing: Be in good academic standing.
  • Health: Be in good physical health 
  • Conduct: Mature with a strong sense of responsibility 
  • Commitment: Actively participate in training community service events
  •  

The Junior Firefighter Program offers a valuable opportunity for youth to develop leadership, teamwork, and firefighting skills while fostering a sense of community service and civic responsibility.

Time Commitment: Training sessions are held three times a month, two weeknight drills and one Saturday session. Trainings are generally held at Station 116 located at the Jackson Rancheria.
